The introduction of the new MINI model family represents a significant leap into the digital era, with the MINI Interaction Unit, a circular OLED display. This revolutionary centerpiece display also happens to be also an automotive industry first.

When creating the MINI OS 9 interface design language, it was important to align with the latest UX standards without any compromise to the spirit and character of the brand.

The outcome: a spectrum of eight different experience modes for this next generation: Core Mode, Go-Kart Mode, Green Mode, Balance Mode, Timeless Mode, Vivid Mode, Personal Mode, and Trail Mode.

a digital quantum leap

This playful derivative of BMW’s digital platform had every detail refined to ensure it performed in the round display, including the synchronisation and orchestration with the dashboard projections.

Full-color light projections on the dashboard accompany each mode and extend into the interior lighting further personalizing the cockpit's ambiance.

Starting early with thematic explorations, then to developing its comprehensive “Charismatic Simplicity” design language - a systemic display and behaviour language with detailed animations, this labor of love combined into a, flexible and scalable multi-edition design system.
